چکیده

We consider a single-machine scheduling problem in which the processing time of each job is a simple linear deteriorating function of its waiting time. The machine is subject to an availability constraint. Jobs interrupted by machine unavailability can resume their processing. The objective is to minimize the makespan. We first show that the problem can be solved optimally by 0–1 integer programming. We then prove that the problem is NP-hard in the ordinary sense and there exists a fully polynomial time approximation scheme for it. 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Scheduling linear deteriorating jobs with an availability constraint on a single machine

We consider a single machine scheduling problem in which the processing time of a job is a simple linear increasing function of its starting time and the machine is subject to an availability constraint. We consider the non-resumable case. The objectives are to minimize the makespan and the total completion time. We show that both problems are NP-hard and present pseudo-polynomial time optimal ...

Minimizing Makespan with Start Time Dependent Jobs in a Two Machine Flow Shop

[if gte mso 9]> The purpose of this paper is to consider the problem of scheduling a set of start time-dependent jobs in a two-machine flow shop, in which the actual processing times of jobs increase linearly according to their starting time. The objective of this problem is to minimize the makespan. The problem is known to be NP-hardness[ah1] ; therefore, there is no polynomial-time algorithm...

Design of a Hybrid Genetic Algorithm for Parallel Machines Scheduling to Minimize Job Tardiness and Machine Deteriorating Costs with Deteriorating Jobs in a Batched Delivery System

This paper studies the parallel machine scheduling problem subject to machine and job deterioration in a batched delivery system. By the machine deterioration effect, we mean that each machine deteriorates over time, at a different rate. Moreover, job processing times are increasing functions of their starting times and follow a simple linear deterioration. The objective functions are minimizin...

GENETIC AND TABU SEARCH ALGORITHMS FOR THE SINGLE MACHINE SCHEDULING PROBLEM WITH SEQUENCE-DEPENDENT SET-UP TIMES AND DETERIORATING JOBS

This paper introduces the effects of job deterioration and sequence dependent set- up time in a single machine scheduling problem. The considered optimization criterion is the minimization of the makespan (Cmax). For this purpose, after formulating the mathematical model, genetic and tabu search algorithms were developed for the problem. Since population diversity is a very important issue in ...

An improved approximation algorithm for two-machine flow shop scheduling with an availability constraint

We study the problem of scheduling n jobs in a two-machine flow shop where the second machine is not available for processing during a given time interval. A resumable scenario is assumed, i.e if a job cannot be finished before the down period it is continued after the machine becomes available again. The objective is to minimize the makespan. The best fast approximation algorithm for this prob...
